To help you get started and make the most of your browsing experience, we’ve gathered the essential settings you should review as soon as you install Comet. These settings will unlock Comet’s AI features, optimize performance, and ensure a secure, personalized browsing journey.
Make Comet Your Default Browser
Set Comet as your default browser to ensure all links and web tasks open seamlessly in Comet, where you can take advantage of context-aware AI search, secure browsing, and agentic workflows.
How to do this:
Go to Settings (three dots in the top right) > Default browser > Make Default.
You can also set Comet as default using your computer’s system settings (Windows or Mac).
Choose Your Default Search Engine
Comet is built around Perplexity AI’s advanced search capabilities. Keeping Perplexity AI as your default is critical for agentic features such as contextual question answering and AI-powered research tools.
How to make Perplexity your default search engine again if you changed it:
Go to Settings > Search engine.
Make sure Perplexity AI is selected.
Changing your default to another search engine will limit or disable many AI-powered features.
Customize Your Comet Appearance
Personalize Comet’s look and feel to match your style, reduce eye strain, or support focus:
Switch between light and dark themes or set Comet to follow your device’s appearance.
Enjoy colored themes: Make your browser pop by selecting from multiple color themes.
Head to “Customize Profile” in the menu for quick options,
Or go to Settings → Appearance to browse all available color themes.
Display the bookmarks bar for quick access, and pin your most-used tabs for convenience.
Explore Tab and Window Management
Use keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+T / Cmd+T to open a new tab or Ctrl+W / Cmd+W to close the current tab).
Quickly open Assistant panel by clicking Opt + A / Alt + A)
Try grouping related tabs by topic or project to declutter your workspace.
Pin essential tabs and take advantage of task search and session restoration to never lose your place.
Control Tracker Blocking and Ad Protection
Access privacy settings to fine-tune tracker and ad blocking, adjusting the level of protection for your needs. Blocking invasive trackers not only protects privacy but can also speed up web browsing.
